Curriculum of community medicine is taught in 4th year MBBS class: How ever orientation to the subject is started in 1st year. The course includes the study and application of a wide range of social sciences, concepts of health economics, human behavior, socio-anthropology and social determinants of health and disease. The study of epidemiology, demography and biostatistics would also be introduced at appropriate stages. Special emphasis is given to the planning and management of primary health care systems and students are also involved in field work under the guidance and supervision of trained staff. Field surveys are planned in the urban and rural areas to access the peoples health status and projects are designed and planned accordingly. Students are involved in preventive curative care and research oriented projects are developed.
