• In Rai Medical College, The Biochemistry department is dedicated to provide a rich educational and learning environment for the undergraduate medical students, while keeping faculty research at the highest level of excellence. Senior faculty members are actively involved in training of students who are also motivated for supervised research.The scientific questions explored in the department span a diversity of topics such as: biochemistry and biophysics, genetics and genomics, development and cell biology, immunology, neurobiology and structural biology.The teaching done at the undergraduate level is sufficient to lay the base for the students to prepare for exams like USMLE and PLAB after graduation.The department also works in collaboration with Medical education and with other departments of Basic and Clinical sciences.

Aims and Objectives:

• The faculty members and supporting staff aim and endeavor to deliver conceptual ground knowledge on this subject according to the International standards and provide the best medical education to its students.It is also in the process of developing an Integrated Modular system.It also aims to start post graduate training eg. MPhil program in the future.The Departmental goal is to see this institution being recognized as a center of excellence and become a role model for other institutions.

Laboratory

• The Biochemistry laboratory is equipped with instruments (spectrophotometers, centrifuges, microscopes, high-grade distillation units and incubators) to fulfill the requirements of undergraduate level but, in future state of the art facilities like PCR, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis will be introduced to facilitate postgraduate trainee students in Research.

Future Prospects:

• The department aims to affiliate with the University of Health Sciences for postgraduate training for M.Phil Biochemistry. This will provide opportunities for professional development and Research for graduates of Rai Medical College and other institutions.The department also aims to arrange workshops on Biotechnology like PCR and HPLC to train the staff and paramedics.The hard work and devotion by the faculty of Biochemistry Department, will continue to make meaningful contribution to academics and research.
